Chris got me hooked on the brothers Green, Hank and John. They have a YouTube channel, VlogBrothers, on which they’ve posted over 500 videos as a series of conversations back and forth, that has really outgrown the original purpose.
They also have a couple of other channels where they present a ton of great educational content in very interesting and engaging ways. Check out SciShow for example.
Anyway – for whatever reason I prefer Hank’s videos to John’s although John certainly has his moments. If you’re looking for some fun – check out VlogBrothers. Here’s an example:
John Green is also a very accomplished author who has a book, The Fault in Our Stars, that is being made into a movie (Shailene Woodley and Laura Dern) and has done touring to promote it. We even see it featured at the Chapters on Robson Street here!
Over the weekend, there was a vicious brutal attack at the Vancouver Zoo. It was horrible, ugly and violent and people were shocked and appalled that such an attack would take place in a civilized place like the zoo.
Wait, no, that’s not right.
A lion ate a golden eagle. Fact. Lions are wild animals, even if we keep them in a zoo. What happens if you put food in front of a lion? Yup. NOM. Food gets eaten. That’s what happened.
Millions of years of evolution taught these lions to stalk their prey and eat it. What’s prey/food look like? Well, golden eagles for one.
I feel bad for the eagle and it’s handlers. This wasn’t a wild eagle, it was part of a wild bird show at the zoo that was roughed up and pushed around by a gang of crows (ironically, a murder of crows) and accidentally ended up in the lion pen where they set upon it. The description of the attack in the Province makes it sound like that scene in Jurassic Park where 2 of the velociraptors distract the hunter, while the third takes him down.
Anyway, this is nature. It’s what happens. Nobody should point fingers, but you can be there’ll be an American tourist with a kid who couldn’t sleep trying to find a way to sue the zoo for trauma. Yawn.
I promised to post more often, but haven’t. So here’s the make up post.
Go see Incredible Hulk. It’s great.
Go see Kung Fu Panda – it’s the coolest movie I’ve seen this year! The cast rocks, the animation, totally rocks and the story is fun and educational without being too preachy. A challenge in kids movies.
On a regular basis actor Devon Sawa visits Casting Workbook. Last week, my dog Rumble snuck up and sniffed at this pant leg which took Devon by surprise (a tiny bit). Today, Rumble and I came up the stairs and Devon was waiting, which scared Rumble and I. We’re even now. But I think Rumble is plotting revenge.
Chris’s mom and new step-dad arrive in 2 days. Whee! He’s not looking forward to it, but I know it’ll be great. Chris’s mom is cool and he says Dave is too. Or was when he knew him like 15+ years ago. Um-kay.
Oh yeah, and I turned 40. How much fun was that? Plenty actually. I got the day to myself and ran around the city. And I looked at Facebook pictures of guys my age I went to High School with. Yeah, I’m winning that race.
