A little summer TV watching

So, Novus finally disconnected our cable, 2 1/2 months after we asked for it to be shut off. It’s funny, but it felt rude and I felt hurt, even though I knew it was coming eventually. Stupid brain.

So, now we’re faced with the happiness of enjoying the summer weather (when we get it) and also filling some downtime with other activities.

Also watching TV. Of course this means watching things online (NetFlix / Apple) or downloading shows. We have a 1 Terabyte hard drive hooked up to the WDTV Live (with WiFi) in the living room, also an Apple TV (with AirPlay), so we have plenty of options. Playing from the drive, streaming from laptops/iPads/iPhones, NetFlix, Apple iTunes etc. No shortage, but it all comes down to the content. What do you watch?

We’ve got all of our favorite sitcoms (The Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother), some drama (House), summer replacements (Burn Notice, Leverage), movies like crazy, random TV hits from the past. And I’ve begun exploring some new shows.

We tried Game of Thrones last night, but episode one didn’t grab us. The opening did! But then there was a lot of talking. A lot.

I recently watched both seasons of BSGU (Battle StarGate Universe) – which I loved, but it was so obvious the writers & directors watched a lot of BSG (BattleStar Galactica – see what I did there?) and since they cancelled it, there  is no more.

So then I realized that I’d left True Blood midway through season 2. Mary-Ann was running rampant through Bon Temps and the gang was in peril.

And that’s where I am. I just finished True Blood season 2, and started season 3. Someone I follow tweeted that True Blood is just gay porn, which I was prepared to disagree with. Then I started season 3 and now I’m inclined to agree. Alan Ball is certainly running the show HIS way.

Season 4 just started, which means if I don’t find some other shows to watch, or seriously pace myself, I’m going to catch up and have to wait like the rest of the world. Which I don’t want to do.

Recommendations?
