Sunday – Vacation day 9

I admit that although I turned 40 a while back, I’m still pretty juvenile. I guess it’s a character flaw, but I choose to embrace it.

So the other day, I got a paperclip from a company to remain nameless. It’s pretty cool because it’s shaped like a dog bone! I mean, come on – custom made paper clips that fit the theme of your company is pretty damned cool. And they work great too. This is a nice little piece of attention to detail that could make a stunning impression on your customers and employees. I shudder to think what they cost and how much corporate time and money went into them.

What’s the problem?

See for yourself what happens if you actually USE one of these nifty little devices. That’s right. Suddenly your cute corporate synergy is thrown out the window and replaced by a tiny little set of “frank and beans” if you know what I mean.

Anyway that’s pretty much what occupied my Sunday. Plus playtime with the dog. Lots of playtime. I feel sorry for his toys actually, we may have worn them out. That also means that I didn’t remember to go buy bags. You know, the kind a good dog owner needs when they take their dog out for a walk <wink wink>. But that’s ok. It’s supposed to be nice tomorrow, I’m still on vacation and we’ve got lots of other bags we can use.

Thursday – Vacation Day 6

Rumble about to get a haircutSo, day 6 is down and gone. Again, this morning we were off and running early, heading to Mestisos Pet Spa for Rumble’s grooming appointment at 10:00. Wow that was early.

Here’s a question for anybody… Why is it when you make an appointment for a doctor or hairdresser in the human world, it’s for a specific time and the professional is ready to work with you at that time and only you, BUT when you make an appointment for dog grooming, say at 10:00am, they tell you it’ll be 2-4 hours and they work on other dogs. Something wrong there.

Or am i out to lunch on my expectations here? Isn’t the point of an appointment to say “Let’s both be ready to deal with this at this time”? By the way, this has been my experience with 3 different groomers in Vancouver.

So Chris and I killed the time with a spot of ‘breakfast’, quality time at Chapters stealing reading books and a nice walk down West Broadway where we don’t spend much time. I had to keep Chris from the triple-death-corner. Death By Chocolate, Tim Hortons and a cake store whose name I don’t remember.

Ok, I wanted triple-death too, but I’m strong. Honestly. The rest of the day was a blur. I’ll post an after picture of Rumble tomorrow.

Wednesday – Vacation Day 5

Vacation day 5 began the way day 6 & 7 will, with an early morning appointment. Today it was with my doctor for a followup to medication changes.

You’ll be happy to know that the Lipitor is doing it’s job and my cholesterols are in the normal range. Woohoo! My blood pressure is also “alright” (not great), but my blood sugars are still high. HbA1C is still high so I have to work on that. I haven’t exactly been good at my eating habits so I know I can change that.

[imdb Wanted]After that, Chris and I hung around downtown for a while including our usual haunt at Chapters, followed by Future Shop then lunch. A stroll along Robson and then it was time to see ‘Wanted’! We’ve been wanting to see this for a while. A couple of gay boys with a thing for Angelina Jolie making people die is an odd thing, but it was worth it.

Now we’re home and relaxing. After some relaxing (and Chris watching Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip) we’ll head out with the dog and make a trip to Costco.

Someone stop the rollercoaster!

I WILL TAKE ACTION

So I’m on vacation for another 11 days. Whee right? Wrong.

See, I’m not going away, or doing anything major with my time, which leaves me with the conundrum – what will I do all day? It’s a conundrum simply because vacation is supposed to be a time to relax (ie: do nothing) and yet I feel compelled to do something.

Part of the problem is that it’s just before Canada Day and that’s going to throw a kink into things. Also, Chris is working wierd shifts at Fido that have just changed, making it a little more difficult to do things. I’m also taking care of Rumble of course, which means my day is broken into little blocks, no more than 4-6 hours long, unless I want to spend time cleaning up.

Is it worth it? Yes. I definately needed a break, but somewhere my partial type-A personality is wrestling with my lazy-ass personality for the TV remote. I’m sure The Simpsons are on somewhere.

My plan for the next 11 days is to focus on internet marketing. 11 Days isn’t a long time, but hell, some of the folks out there have made 1000′s of dollars in that time and I’d be happy if I could make $10 in that time. It’d be nearly a record.

Build a list, market to the list, hope someone buys. But what to sell? There’s a million products out there, and I know I’ve got about 1000 of them here that I’ve downloaded over the years. Balance that with the on-going challenge of West Coast Favors and my belief in that business. I have to get busy and start working on all of it.

Tomorrow I’m not allowed to slack! I WILL TAKE ACTION!
