So, Glee’s third season started this past Tuesday and we finally watched it this morning.

We’re good gays. We celebrated Sunday with home-made brunch and Glee. It was fab!

Ok, I won’t do that again.

But seriously, Glee was – meh.

So here’s what you missed on Glee.

Sam’s dad got a job offer and they’ve moved out of state, which affected Mercedes so much she want from dating the puny white boy to dating a giant black guy.

Sue is running for Congress on a platform of banning all arts education in the district, just to get back at Will.

Santana is co-captaining the Cheerios with Becky and they hate each other. Sue made them light a piano on fire and Santana was dismissed from New Directions.

Will is living with Emma, who packs his lunch into a Superman lunchbox every morning. He packs hers too but I missed the logo. They haven’t had sex yet, and Will is horny. There, I said it.

Quinn has gone all Madonna in VisionQuest or something and is hanging out with The Skanks. A group of girls who’s self-image is as bad as their hygiene apparently. “Quinn, your friend smells like soap, make her go away.”

Blaine has moved to McKinley to be with Kurt, who recently had his and Rachel’s dream of moving to New York dashed twice in one week. Once when they found out Julliard didn’t have a musical theatre program, and next when they went to a meeting for a local college and found out they suck in comparison. Oops.

And that’s what you missed on Glee.

Yawn.

Oh – the highlight was Blaine doing “It’s not unusual” – he was great, despite the clothes.

, long live Justin Bieber.

I pick on Bieber a lot, because he’s an easy target (ha ha), but this has been a busy week for the Bieber.

Not only did Glee do a tribute to the Biebs, but his CSI character got a lot of attention.

I have to say that I loved the Glee episode (Chris turned it off as soon as “Puffy Lips” (Chord Overstreet) started singing Baby), but I stuck it out and was handsomely rewarded. Not only were the Glee boy’s renditions of Baby and Somebody To Love pretty good (and them in their hoodies) – but the diva-off between Mercedes and Rachel doing Take Me or Leave Me from Rent was great.

Sue’s suggestion they do a real anthem, and then doing My Chemical Romance’s Sing is a questionable choice. I guess it’s a “modern day” anthem as opposed to the legendary rock anthems I was thinking/hoping they might do. Strong enough for Regionals? Who knows how the writers will play it. Depends on the iTunes sales I think. Anyway, I downloaded this and the original. Good week for music.

Back to Bieber.

I have not seen CSI in a few years, specifically none of the episodes with Justin in them, and really don’t know about his character.

All I know is that I got a chuckle out of the above animated GIF. Mainly because I poke fun. Yes, I know constantly talking about him “really” means that I like Justin. Just like Lady MacBeth.

I do draw the line at seeing a movie about him. No 16 year old needs a feature film biography.

I posted last year over a year and a half ago about how much TV Chris and I watched. At the time, the list was “big” and had conflicts most every night. Here’s a recap in case you don’t click the link:

Monday: House, Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother, Dirty Jobs

Tuesday: NCIS

Wednesday: Lie To Me, Lost, Life (There’s an alliterative theme there)

Thursday: Bones and maybe Ace Of Cakes

Friday: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Dollhouse

Saturday: Cops (my weekly guilty pleasure)

Sunday: America’s Funniest Home Videos, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Mythbusters

Total: 17 shows watched when they air

Here’s how that list converts this year:

Monday: House, Big Bang Theory, How I Met Your Mother (Taped for another day), Dirty Jobs

Tuesday: NCIS, Glee

Wednesday: Lie To Me, Lost, Life (There’s an alliterative theme there)

Thursday: Bones and maybe Ace Of Cakes, Big Bang Theory (moved), Fringe

Friday: Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Dollhouse

Saturday: Cops (my weekly guilty pleasure)

Sunday: America’s Funniest Home Videos, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Mythbusters (taped for another day)

Total: 9 shows watched when they air, plus we download The Walking Dead, Burn Notice and Leverage.

If we need something else, we’ll try Discovery, HGTV, Food Network and sometimes other random stations. Of course there’s always The Real Estate Channel to fall back on and dream.

This TV season sucks. We haven’t picked up anything new to watch except The Walking Dead and it’s awesome, but a little rough for a Sunday night after dinner. Come on CBS, NBC, ABC or Fox. How about something decent instead of brain-dead television and reality shows?

The problem, in my humble viewer opinion, is that the networks almost ALWAYS cater to the lowest common denominator, ignoring those of us who actually enjoy thinking while watching TV. How many long running intelligent shows can you name that didn’t start to suck after a season or 2 or 3?

I’m not saying I expect the same shows to last 10+ years. That’s not always possible. LOST is an example. It was a decent show that kept you thinking, but to expect them to keep it decent and fresh for much longer would have been crazy. It had a lifespan.

Law & Order(s) and CSI type procedural shows manage because people are nuts and there’s always something fresh. They tend to focus a bit less on their recurring characters lives and focus on the external stories to keep things moving. If we had to watch Elliot & Olivia live their lives without the changing cases, we wouldn’t have 30 seasons of Law & Order: SVU. Instead we have 30 seasons of SVU, a bit of Elliot & Olivia, and a whole lot of ever changing human depravity.

I’m not saying depravity is good, so don’t get me started. I’m saying that by allowing those stories to be the focus of the show, the writers can “gently” interweave the character’s lives.

Sit coms are different. We don’t expect as much out of them. Although by the time the 90210 kids turned grey, they should have graduated from high school.

A while back, following a number of suicides by gay youth who had been bullied, an amazing project was born. The It Gets Better Project is the brainchild of Dan Savage who knows first hand what growing up gay (or lesbian, bi or trans-gendered) is like.

The website has this to say about the project:

What is the It Gets Better Project?

In September 2010, syndicated columnist and author Dan Savage created a YouTube video with his partner Terry to inspire hope for young people facing harassment. In response to a number of students taking their own lives after being bullied in school, they wanted to create a personal way for supporters everywhere to tell LGBT youth that, yes, it does indeed get better.

Two months later, the It Gets Better Project has turned into a worldwide movement, inspiring over 5000 user-created videos and over 15 million views. To date, the project has received submissions from celebrities, organizations, activists, politicians and media personalities, including President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Adam Lambert, Anne Hathaway, Colin Farrell, Matthew Morrison of “Glee”, Joe Jonas, Joel Madden, Ke$ha, Sarah Silverman, Tim Gunn, Ellen DeGeneres, Suze Orman, the staffs of The Gap, Google and Facebook, the Broadway community, and many more. For us, every video changes a life. It doesn’t matter who makes it.

The website www.itgetsbetterproject.com is a place where young people who are lesbian, gay, bi, or trans can see how love and happiness can be a reality in their future. It’s a place where our straight allies can visit and support their friends and family members. It’s a place where people can share their stories, take the It Gets Better Project pledge, watch videos of love and support, and seek help through the Trevor Project and GLSEN.

Along with all the celebrity support, hundreds of videos have been produced by normal, everyday people who want to send messages of hope to the community. Chris and I have talked about making a video, but haven’t done it. We were both bullied as teens and responded in different ways. Today, we believe that It Gets Better and feel that we embody that. We’re both out of the closet, obviously married and not shy about it, we don’t hide our relationship, and are fairly happy having moved past the bullying and negative experiences of our younger day.

One of the most recent videos to be added is yet another celebrity (of a sort) – Max Adler who plays Karofsky on Glee. Karofsky is a football player and more importantly a bully. He’s quite fond of slamming Kurt into his locker and taunting him with hate speech. Recently though, we found out that Karofsky is actually a big closeted ‘mo himself when he kissed Kurt (who finally stood up for himself) in the locker room.

Max shot an It Gets Better video and it was featured on The Advocate.com yesterday. Although Max isn’t gay, I’m sure he’s seen his share of bullying in school and life, and I’m glad that he shot this seemingly honest video to counteract the damage being done by his character on Glee. I think having Karofsky’s character on Glee is important as a way of showing what really happens in school, and how most people who bully are really insecure themselves (although they’re not all gay of course).

You can watch Max’s video below, but be sure to check out the YouTube channel for more videos, and the It Gets Better Project’s website for more and how you can get involved.

Many people have written about the start of 2010 and what it means to them, so I figured I’d throw my hat in the ring too.

Last year got off to a bad start. I don’t remember why exactly. A lot of things went wrong but I didn’t whine about them on my blog hear so I have nothing to go on. I do remember talking to people about how I wanted to start over and that lasted for about 2 weeks. If you remember what I complained about, let me know.

2009 did get a lot better, things were good etc. And then it came to an end much the way it started. I had a headache and was generally “out of it” for a couple of days, including New Years Eve, leading to me being in bed between 10:30 and 11:00. Yep, hardcore party people in the house.

I was actually asleep by 11:10 and woke up not feeling too well again. But it passed.

And then we were in 2010. Corey Monteith of TV’s Glee ran a quick check on Twitter and said it’s officially ‘aught ten’ which I’m not going to pick up. The Olympic branding, which hasn’t taught me much, but has engrained Twenty Ten into my brain, so that’s what I’m going with. It may not stick either but I gotta start somewhere.

Vancouver is roughly 40 days from Olympic Chaos. I could complain about how much it’s going to mess up my commute, but it won’t be too bad (I hope). Considering Rumble and I will mostly be walking. I will have to change my bus route though. It won’t be too bad. I think the 50 False Creek will keep running from the Keefer Street side and end up on or near Granville where I need to get off.

I’m also hoping for nice weather for the Winter Olympics, not to be mean, but just because I don’t like winter.

Oh – and a rant.

Chris and I went to The Bay downtown and I wanted to buy us each a pair of the Red Mittens to wear during the Olympics as we wander around. Apparently the Olympic store in The Bay only accepts Visa and Cash.

Yep, no debit cards, no MasterCard, no American Express. Only Visa (the official card) and Cash (the official cash).

We left without mittens… For now. We’ll be back, oh yeah, we’ll be back.

Screw you 2010, I’m going to win.
