I usually spend most of the day working on WordPress plugins and playing with the dog.

While working, I often put on a movie and this Saturday was no exception. I decided to pull up our copy of Beastly from the hard-drive and give it a spin.

I’d watched “I Am Number 4″ a few weeks ago and found it not too bad, and I liked Alex Pettyfer enough to give this a whirl. He looks pretty damn fine with his shirt off.

Beastly is a modern retelling of the classic Beauty & The Beast story where a man (always) is a rude obnoxious jerk and needs to be taught a lesson. In this case, Alex Pettyfer is Kyle, a spoiled rich kid with an obnoxious jerk of a dad (Peter Krause) who thinks that good looks and power go hand in hand and everyone else needs to “embrace the suck.”

That is until he goes one step too far and pisses off a witch – eerily well played by Mary Kate Olsen, and is cursed to spend 1 full year trying to find someone to say “I love you” to him. His curse is measured by the tree tattoo on his wrist that will bloom again in exactly one year.

He’s helped along his quest by 2 faithful sidekicks: Lumiere & Cogsworth. Oops, wrong movie. I mean Zola and Will, played by Lisa Gay Hamilton and Neil Patrick Harris (hilarious). Both of whom still love him and see him as a good person, despite him being rude to both.

Oh yeah, the girl. Vanessa Hudgens, best known for a lot of High School Musicals, plays Lindy on whom Kyle has a crush. I don’t know why. But he does, and it’s her he chooses to make say “I love you.”

It’s not easy, time runs out, he has to learn to love himself first, then there’s the father thing, tattoo blooming. “I love you” and happily ever after.

What? You thought it might end with him being a monster? Not likely.

Overall, I generally liked this, but they followed the Disney story to closely, and the ending seemed rushed. I also didn’t buy Kyle’s character development. Bleh.

I have no illusions that this is how real cowboys are. Real cowboys are fit, sure, but also dirty and don’t look like they spent 3 hours in the salon getting ready for a photo shoot. However, these are at least as fun to look at.

So, without further ado – I present, 7 more hot cowboys.

I was asked how Chris feels about my supposed obsession with Taylor. He knows all about it and usually just rolls his eyes and has another beer. It’s not an obsession. It’s simply an attempt to get people to pay attention to my blog.

Downtown Vancouver is rapidly becoming Olympic central as you would expect with the games roughly two months away at this point.

One of the features is GIANT, building sized posters or banners or flags or whatever you want to call them. On the building opposite the VAG is a giant Canada flag, which I think Chris has a picture of, but I don’t. I’ll post it one day. Ok, here it is, I got Chris to email it to me. We do love our tech.

On the Hudson’s Bay building there are a series of giant pictures of Canada’s winter Olympic athletes, which is a great way to promote them, make the Bay building look good (nobody will be able to recognize it as the place they shot Blade 3).

The biggest reason I like this particular promotion is because the very first photo I saw was of Olympic cutie Carter Rycroft. I know, I’m a shallow, shallow, looks obsessed person for this and I’m sure I’ll be toasting in hell at some point.

Hey, I’m not saying I don’t think he’s a tremendous athlete or that any non-cute athletes don’t get my support, I’m a big athletic supporter – hey wait…  but it sure helps hold my interest in what they’re up to when they’re adorable at the same time.

I like the whole hot-men-in-speedos aspect of swimming and diving during the summer Olympics, but have you seen Michael Phelps? His face isn’t exactly model quality so I don’t care about it so much.

Anyway, in the mean time. I have a new interest in Canada’s men’s curling team and hope to find some time to watch it over the 2 weeks that Vancouver will become a complete zoo in February 2010. Best of luck Carter. Oh, and everyone else.

In the Twilight Saga movies New Moon and Eclipse, Kellan plays Emmett Cullen. Wikipedia says this about his character:

Emmett Cullen (born Emmett McCarty) is Rosalie’s husband, Carlisle and Esme’s adopted son, and Edward, Alice, and Jasper’s adoptive brother. Emmett is described as being tall, burly, extremely muscular, and, to most humans, the most intimidating of his adoptive siblings. He has slightly curly dark hair and dimpled cheeks.

Kellan himself is an extremely athletic guy (as shown by the photos), so he fit right into the role. Click each picture to see it full size.

Ok, I’m kidding. Unless you’ve been living under a beaver dam, you know about Twilight. Hell, the even filmed it here in Vancouver. Chris and I avoided the movie in the theatre and eventually I ended up watching it after it was released on DVD. Seriously? Vampires that sparkle in the sunlight? Oy.

So there were a few highlights of the movie and one of them was of course the guys. What can I say, I had to dig deep for something to enjoy. I’m not talking about Robert Pattinson. I don’t think he’s that attractive at all. Taylor Lautner on the other hand is seriously cute (assuming you ignore that hideous wig he had to endure). Here’s a shot of him with short hair from Twilight: New Moon.

So much better without the wig! Anyway, if you watch the commercial / interview below, you see lots of stuff from the new movie, including a first look at the new werewolves and it actually looks better than Twilight! Here’s hoping.

Hot Cowboy!

In general, I like a good cowboy. There is something about the mystique that goes along with them, and I am not just talking about Brokeback Mountain. My enjoyment goes way back. I do not, for a minute, think this guy is a real cowboy or has even ever been on a horse or farm before this photo shoot, but he is handsome, muscular and sexy enough that I am willing to let it go. Enjoy.
