I can only hope that Evan here has a super horrible personality to make up for abundance of what some of us call “the goods”.

Stealing from the Barenaked Ladies I am.
So I’ve had my Invisalign braces for 6 days, not a week. But I’ve really gotten used to it. I’m much better and putting them on, and importantly taking them out. My “out time” tends to be a little long sometimes – I need to compress my eating schedule.
Despite the doctor saying I can eat with them in, and I have tried, I don’t think it’s a good idea. It’s messy and uncomfortable. I’ll still to the hassles of taking them out.
I have noticed that in just this first week, flossing is different. The spacing is changed! Kewl. it’s working.
Wednesday I got to have the attachment replaced and expect that having that one back will make it hard to take these things on and off again. Sigh.
Today I lost 2 of the “attachments” for my braces. 1 important, 1 not. Apparently it’s not all that uncommon. Sometimes the glue doesn’t hold but more often, the shear force (shearing force?) of removing the trays plays havoc on them. Some people lose attachments every time they change trays. I hope that doesn’t happen.
Otherwise today wasn’t bad. Misadventures in eating, learning how to remove the trays without breaking a nail. My boss even told me I was “more gay” today. I told her to stop teasing me about my newly acquired lisp or I’d sue her for harassment just to be able to pay for my braces. And to get her to stop. It worked.
Ok, so maybe it’s not that bad.
Today was B-Day. At 9:15 this morning, I began the torture known as BRACES, aka orthodontia.
When I was a young lad, I had the wire contraptions that are typically used to torture teenagers. And after that came the retainer. Which then disappeared quickly. I don’t remember what happened but apparently that little retainer is the key to making braces work. Once you’ve moved everything, you need to KEEP it there. Who knew?
So now, at the ripe-old age of 40, I’ve got braces. This time there’s a difference. No train-tracks for me. This time, I’ve got the high-tech Invis-Align system. Oooh. Aaaah. Revel in their high-tech ability to induce pain.
This morning a wonderful woman named Judy spent 2 hours applying “attachments” to my teeth. More than usual. Nobody mentioned that part before. So now I have these clear little studs on selected teeth on the outside and inside. The clear braces attach to these to keep everything happy. That didn’t hurt, but for 2 hours they fiddled in my mouth.
Then come the braces. They’re cool. I’ll post a picture soon. Invis-Align knows their stuff. but they hurt like the dickens when you put them on! From instant one they relentlessly torque, push, pull and twist your teeth to their will. For 22 hours a day!
They say the first 48 hours are the most critical and the most painful. God I hope so. Stayed tuned for tomorrow’s update.
Did you ever notice how FAST time goes as you get older? I mean, wasn’t it just summer last week?
Seriously I have no idea where the time is going. I get up early every morning, put in a full day and evenings work, spend time with friends and family and do all that stuff you do, and time just FLIES by and I don’t feel like I’m accomplishing much.
Maybe it’s the ADD work-a-holic in me trying too hard. That’s what Chris would say. Oh well.
Anyway, it’s now past the middle of October. Halloween is just around the corner, followed by Remembrance Day, US Thanksgiving and then Festivus Christmas. What the hell? Where did 2008 go? Why are people talking about 2009 plans already?
I seriously gotta find a way to slow this down.
