PAWS For A Cause

So, after reading some stuff, I decided that Rumble and I would participate in the BCSPCA Paws For A Cause walk on September 14. Our goal is to raise $1000 for the SPCA in the lower mainland. You can sponsor us at the link below.

The SPCA does great work and doesn’t need much explanation. Chris and I considered adopting from them, but given my allergy to dogs, waiting until a hypo-allergenic breed arrived would have taken a LONG time.

We’ll be doing some fundraising with West Coast Favors merchandise too, with WCF donating profits to the cause.

I guess I should have told Chris before I posted this. Oops.

Watch of the future

I’ve been busy. That’s my only excuse for not blogging in over a week. Big business deals shaking up my world. That sort of thing. It’s all good.

Check this out!

Nail watch: The future of telling time? | Crave, the gadget blog – CNET

It’s only a concept watch right now, but the concept is pretty cool and easy. The review on Homotron suggests concerns about it popping off like other fake nails, which I can imagine.

How convenient is this though? Assuming it’s adhesive is strong, you never have to take it off, and when it’s turned off, it’s invisible. I like that. Never forget to put your watch on.

The downside is that watches are part of fashion. They’re not just useful time pieces they’re attractive status symbols. Do you have an expensive dive watch, a sport watch with heart monitor? Maybe a Rolex, Breitling or Tissot? Do you want to replace that with an invisible Timex? Probably not. But for a lot of people, it’d be convenient, plus you could check the time during that boring meeting much more discretely.

Monday & Tuesday – Vacation Days 10 & 11

Wow. Time flies. I didn’t blog yesterday and now today is basically over.

[imdb wall-e]Chris came home from work last night and we literally dragged the dog out, made him poop and ran across the street to see Wall·E. I gotta tell you Wall·E rocks hard! This movie is pretty awesome. Pixar has really come a long long way in technology since they made Toy Story. Wall·E features more lighting and focus effects than you see in most standard movies, and at times it does seem gratuitous, but it’s always beautiful.

The story isn’t without it’s problems but it’s a kids show (mostly) so you let them go. There’s a lot of people on the net (and in real life I’m sure) complaining that Wall·E is insensitive to fat people. (Semi-spoiler) I don’t think it really is. None of the fat people is portrayed as evil or bad, nor are they particularly lazy per se. They have simply become accustomed to a life where all of their needs are take care of and they don’t need to move. Social commentary anyone?

So that was Monday night.

[imdb hancock]Today, after doing some household stuff (laundry bleh) and watching Peaceful Warrior of and on, we ran downtown to see the first screening of the day of Hancock. Hmm. What to say. Well, I knew the story and spoilers 2 weeks ago after reading a review on AICN, so it wasn’t any suprise what happened. Everything played out the way I expected. Jason Bateman did a pretty good job I though, considering the crap he had to work with. Will Smith was Will Smith, only drunk (mostly) and Charlize Theron was interesting. Worth the $25? Nope. Wait for NetFlix to get the DVDs and have a bunch of friends over. Save a ton of money.

Sleepy DogThen we destroyed the dog. Not literally of course. We love our Rumble-pup. However, we did drag him across the city and back in 24 degree heat (with lots of water). First we took him to the dog park in the West End and getting there is a hike. After some playtime, we carried on down Davie to Bosley’s to buy a toothbrush and look for a new carry-bag for him. I mean to carry him, not for him to carry. Then we hit Denman and went up from English Bay to Georgia so Chris could look at Running Room for some shorts and stuff. Then proceded home through Coal Harbour and then onto Pender.

The dog was wrecked. Chris insisted we carry him a bit which was probably a mistake. Rumble loved it. After a few blocks we put him down and he didn’t want to walk. Spoiled. But he did it. Then he got a bath. Boy that was fun let me tell you. Anyway, after that he slept hard for a few hours. He was pretty pooped. Poor little guy. Like most dogs, as long as we’re going, he’s going.

We rounded out the evening with another crapfest – Rambo. Don’t even get me started on this mess. IMDB says it has an average of 2.59 kills per minute. That’s more killing than story.

Srsly? WTF? Google oddity

So I did it. I posted my entry about “hulk wang” and “bajinas” as an experiment at 8:32 this morning. Sometime this afternoon, I began ranking #1 on Google for “hulk wang” but not at all for bajinas I just rechecked and I’m #10.

Not bad for something that was purely an experiment. Now if only there was a way to monetize “hulk wang.” I’m not touching “bajinas.”

Sunday – Vacation day 9

I admit that although I turned 40 a while back, I’m still pretty juvenile. I guess it’s a character flaw, but I choose to embrace it.

So the other day, I got a paperclip from a company to remain nameless. It’s pretty cool because it’s shaped like a dog bone! I mean, come on – custom made paper clips that fit the theme of your company is pretty damned cool. And they work great too. This is a nice little piece of attention to detail that could make a stunning impression on your customers and employees. I shudder to think what they cost and how much corporate time and money went into them.

What’s the problem?

See for yourself what happens if you actually USE one of these nifty little devices. That’s right. Suddenly your cute corporate synergy is thrown out the window and replaced by a tiny little set of “frank and beans” if you know what I mean.

Anyway that’s pretty much what occupied my Sunday. Plus playtime with the dog. Lots of playtime. I feel sorry for his toys actually, we may have worn them out. That also means that I didn’t remember to go buy bags. You know, the kind a good dog owner needs when they take their dog out for a walk <wink wink>. But that’s ok. It’s supposed to be nice tomorrow, I’m still on vacation and we’ve got lots of other bags we can use.

[imdb 10000 bc]Update: Forgot, I also watched 10,000 B.C. Um. Yeah. Next.
