Surrey Girls Rock

Dana Carvey rocks the Surrey Girls. Too funny. Thanks to Miss604 for bringing this to our attention.

Although I thought it was funny and have come to love Miss604 since I started reading her last month, I’m mainly playing with my new blog here. Sorry folks.

I WILL TAKE ACTION

So I’m on vacation for another 11 days. Whee right? Wrong.

See, I’m not going away, or doing anything major with my time, which leaves me with the conundrum – what will I do all day? It’s a conundrum simply because vacation is supposed to be a time to relax (ie: do nothing) and yet I feel compelled to do something.

Part of the problem is that it’s just before Canada Day and that’s going to throw a kink into things. Also, Chris is working wierd shifts at Fido that have just changed, making it a little more difficult to do things. I’m also taking care of Rumble of course, which means my day is broken into little blocks, no more than 4-6 hours long, unless I want to spend time cleaning up.

Is it worth it? Yes. I definately needed a break, but somewhere my partial type-A personality is wrestling with my lazy-ass personality for the TV remote. I’m sure The Simpsons are on somewhere.

My plan for the next 11 days is to focus on internet marketing. 11 Days isn’t a long time, but hell, some of the folks out there have made 1000′s of dollars in that time and I’d be happy if I could make $10 in that time. It’d be nearly a record.

Build a list, market to the list, hope someone buys. But what to sell? There’s a million products out there, and I know I’ve got about 1000 of them here that I’ve downloaded over the years. Balance that with the on-going challenge of West Coast Favors and my belief in that business. I have to get busy and start working on all of it.

Tomorrow I’m not allowed to slack! I WILL TAKE ACTION!

Another Recap

The last few days have been more than a little crazy. Big software launch at work, combined with month end invoicing, payroll and delegation relating to my vacation. Whee! But it all added up to a ton of work. So of course I got sick. Sore throat started Wednesday night.

Oh! And the in-laws arrived. Great people, but it meant next to no downtime for 3 days. Yesterday was pretty cool though. We went to Grouse Mountain. I’ve only been there once before. It’s an awesome place to visit. We watched the Lumberjack Show (cute lumberjacks!) and got seriously burned. We also watched the grizzly bears frolicking in the snow. That’s right. Snow. There’s still quite a bit of it up there considering it’s the end of June.

Anyway, it was a great day, and now on day 2 of my vacation, I’m doing sweet f^#k all. Me and the dog are hanging around the house. Technically I shouldn’t be blogging, but I’m bored and the dog’s asleep.

Maybe I’ll watch a movie.

Customer Service Calls

Seth Godin’s a bright guy and I follow his blog with Google Reader, and I have read a couple of his books. I highly recommend both.

Today he posted about the art of Customer Service in a call center. More specifically routing calls before you reach a person. You know. Press 1 for this, 2 for that. Then repeat until you finally reach someone or accidentally press the wrong button and go away.

But it doesn’t have to be that way, and that’s his point. He mentions companies that ask you to key in your telephone or account number (Telus) but then the rep asks for it right away. Why did I bother? Yes, I know, verification, but come on.

With Chris working in a call center (Fido) and before at eBay, he spends time telling me stories, and I love to read about the problems people have, via their blogs. And then at the end of it all, I ask, “how does Casting Workbook stack up?”

We do not bad since we have only one level, but our phone system only lets people search by last name, and our clients know us by first name mostly. FAIL.

So much for frequency

I promised to post more often, but haven’t. So here’s the make up post.

Go see Incredible Hulk. It’s great.

Go see Kung Fu Panda – it’s the coolest movie I’ve seen this year! The cast rocks, the animation, totally rocks and the story is fun and educational without being too preachy. A challenge in kids movies.

On a regular basis actor Devon Sawa visits Casting Workbook. Last week, my dog Rumble snuck up and sniffed at this pant leg which took Devon by surprise (a tiny bit). Today, Rumble and I came up the stairs and Devon was waiting, which scared Rumble and I. We’re even now. But I think Rumble is plotting revenge.

Chris’s mom and new step-dad arrive in 2 days. Whee! He’s not looking forward to it, but I know it’ll be great. Chris’s mom is cool and he says Dave is too. Or was when he knew him like 15+ years ago. Um-kay.

Oh yeah, and I turned 40. How much fun was that? Plenty actually. I got the day to myself and ran around the city. And I looked at Facebook pictures of guys my age I went to High School with. Yeah, I’m winning that race.
