The First Rule of Fight Club

Chris and I visited HMV yesterday, a big audio/video retailer here, and picked up a few DVDs. They’re having a big sale and a bunch of movies are just $5.99 (I bought Exorcist:The Beginning and Texas Chainsaw Massacre – Christ won’t watch either one) and we bought Fight Club and Moulin Rouge.

We watched Fight Club last night. I forgotten just how messed up this movie is. But really cool. Of course we spent 1/2 the movie cursing Brad Pitt and his amazing body.

I started watching Exorcist, but got tired and went to bed. It’s weird watching a horror movie late at night, but with the volume turned way down so I didn’t wake Chris. He probably wouldn’t wake up, but I kept hitting mute every time something scary or screamy was about to happen.

I’ll finish it another day.

Happy Holidays

It’s now a few days after Christmas, and I thought I should blog. I’m off all week, so except for not doing anything, there’s no excuse to not blog.

Christmas was great. Chris and I both had the whole weekend off (3 days!) so we spent a lot of time together. I’m off all week, but he’s back at work now. He’s not feeling well, something is really upsetting his stomach. Wish I knew what it was.

So – what did Santa bring me? A couple of gift cards, a reindeer olive dish, a toasted pocket sandwich maker, dvds etc. It was a fairly low-key Christmas, but it was good.

I gave Chris an MP3 player, a couple of DVDs etc.

New Years is next. We’re not sure what we’re doing. A friend of ours is having a party but it’s in deep Richmond and I’m not sure how we’ll get there or back.

I hope you are having a good holiday season.

Happy Anniversary

Chris and I just passed our 1 year anniversary. We’d met last fall at various events, but never really connected. They were parties and things and we met, but didn’t even talk. Then, Saturday Dec 18, I was walking through Chapters and bumped into him. He suggested coffee so we went to Starbucks. Chatted over a cuppa, then set a date for Sunday.

We met for coffee, Blenz this time. Then we went for a walk. A long walk. 5 or 6 hours as I recall. We walked all through the West End, along Lost Lagoon, Coal Harbour, Canada Place. It was insane. I think without realizing it, I fell in love with him that night. It was a very easy simple time. Conversation flowed so easily. He was such a great guy.

And now it’s even better if that’s even possible. We didn’t do anything much. We went for coffee at Starbucks (tradition? many of our early dates were Starbucks based), did some shopping and then headed to Granville Island. He bought us both bracelets as an anniversary present.

Happy Anniversary Chris. Wuvoo.

Date Night Movie

Chris and I went to see The Chronicals of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe last night. This film is brilliant! I remember the book from when I was a kid, and it follows along quite nicely. The casting was amazing too. The 4 children were very strong performers and believable actors. Little Lucy is so cute you just want to give her a hug! She’s a little too mature for her age in places though, although that might have been a choice.

Visually this film is stunning and you can see the quality of the effects in almost every shot. They’re not flawless in every place, but they’re always breathtaking.

You should definately go see this movie.

Down a pound

Looks like I didn’t update my graph at the top last week. I was up to 248 pounds. Last night I was back down to 247. Last night was out TOPS Christmas potluck and it was a very nice evening with the whole crew. Good food, fun games and gifts exchanged.

I visited my doctor for a full physical and she was pleased. Other than the diabetes issues (I’m going back on Metformin/Glucophage) there was nothing that concerned her. I mean, I got the usual warning about losing weight (I’m trying) but my heart, lungs and other body parts are in full working order.

So tonight I’ll pick up my prescription, buy a Glucose meter and associated supplies, and begin with the new regime tomorrow morning.

Chris and I talked about the need to eat better. We do REALLY well right now. He used to be a true bachelor, eating mostly frozen/packaged foods, but now he’s eating real food that I cook from scratch. But I need to eat a wider variety of vegetables. I haven’t had broccoli in 3 months, and that was only when we ate out one time! I’ll bring him around.

I also have to go christmas shopping this weekend. I don’t have many presents to buy, but I have no clue what I’m getting anyone. That’s my guy side coming out.
