Life – The Stuff of Life

Wow. It’s been a busy couple of weeks.

I’m still trying to get in touch with my brother. He lives in Marathon, Florida and they were hit by Hurricane Wilma. The place he works (The Dolphin Research Center) was apparently seriously damaged. Brad stays there during evacuations with other staff to take care of the dolphins. His girlfriend and daughter usually head up to Miami to take shelter, but this time that wouldn’t have been much better. I’m sure they’re OK.

Brad’s (now) ex-wife Corinne runs The Turtle Hospital which was also seriously damaged. Their main holding area was apparently destroyed (or mostly) and the storm surge flooded their Operating Room and main building to a height I’d guess at 3 feet. I was told the top of the x-ray table which looks about 3 feet wouldn’t you say? That’s Miles on the table.

Here at home, things are good. Chris has a new job working at a local store. He’s starting at 5am most days which sucks. By the time I get home, we get about 3 hours together, then he’s off to bed. Hopefully something better will come along. He’s still taking interviews since this is work he can do in his sleep (which works out well), and doesn’t pay that well.

Me? I’m good. Working but not too hard, living but not too hard. I’m the leader of a T.O.P.S. group. That stands for Take Off Pounds Sensibly and it’s primarily a weight loss support group. Extremely affordable, not like Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig in that they don’t try to sell you food and everything, but typically support you in whatever you’re doing. We had a big fall rally last night at a rec center and the theme was Wizard of Oz – (Follow the Yellow Brick Road From TOPS to KOPS). Man, I know that movie too well. Goes with the whole gay thing. I think I got a copy of the movie during orientation, or in the welcome kit.

Speaking of gay… George Takei is gay! Who knew. I mean, come on. There’s that TOS eposide where he goes insane and wants to sword fight. Minciest little sword fighter. And he wore a CAPE in one of the movies. Come on. Superhero’s and flaming, affected, effinate gay men wear capes. I don’t care if it is the 24th century. We all knew. I think it was in the handbook with the list of other gay hollywood celebs… Didn’t you get it?

Weekends in Vancouver

What a great weekend. It’s fall in Vancouver so weather-wise that can go either way, and it did.

Saturday was beautiful and sunny. Chris and I ventured to Richmond to buy some stuff from Ikea and Home Depot. It was a great trip, we generally found what we were looking for and spent more money than expected. I love Ikea, and I think Chris is growing to like it, despite himself. The bus trip wasn’t too bad and given the gorgeous sunshine, a nice way to see part of Vancouver.

Today (sunday) was the exact opposite. It’s been raining and cold all day. In Vancouver, if you let that stop you, you’d get nothing done for over 1/2 the year.

So, being the ever intrepid duo that we are, we ventured out and got haircuts, went from lunch and did some more shopping. Chris is starting training for a new job tomorrow and needed some dress shirts and ties. After waiting for our super and then waiting even more for the bus, the afternoon was shot pretty quickly.

Tonight we just relaxed, watched a special on the Titanic and did our own thing. I’ve got a bunch of website stuff to do, and Chris is watching West Wing. Tomorrow begins a new week (Of course), and a new adventure and job for Chris. It may be short lived as he has 2 other interviews setup.

Cheers!

I Love Movie Posters

For 6 years, I worked for Landmark Cinemas managing theatres. I love movies. I’ve worked in video stores, sold popcorn, cleaned up after customers, run projection for an 8 screen theatre and I now work in the casting side of things (kinda). I’ve always loved movies. Star Wars was the first movie I went to by myself, at the Bayfield Mall in Barrie, Ontario. I was born near DisneyLand, acted in a TVO special on toboggan safety, got picked to play Buck Rogers at Universal Studios…

Ok, now I’m reaching, but it’s true. Movies & television have always been part of my life.

That love today extends toward a slightly more healthy love of movie posters, hence my movie poster site, www.jeffsmovieposters.com – which gives me a few bucks here and there, which I would gladly turn around and spend buying posters, or having some of the ones I’ve got framed or mounted. That’s my next project – hanging posters in my office, once they’ve been properly framed.

Fall is upon us.

Fall is definately here in Vancouver. The weather is cloudy and we’re getting a lot of rain. A sure sign of the change of seasons. At least we’re not getting snow like a lot of the central part of the country (and the US).

My dad and Claudia are off to Ontario with Rufus. They’re driving to Bob Cajun to see Claudia’s daughters, and to see my dad’s family. After that they’re off to Florida for 6 months. They’re house hunting while they’re in Ontario too, so they’ll be moving in the spring very likely.

Spoke to my mom and Mike, they’re back from Vegas and the NASCAR races. Mom’s upset because a Stealth fighter didn’t fly over them this time. Apparently she’s in love with them… who knew!

Otherwise, everyone’s just working hard.
